Suicidal ideations among students attending vocational school in Germany: a cross-sectional study to identify prevalence and associated risk factors

Abstract Aim Even though students attending vocational school are very vulnerable to the development of mental health problems, few studies identify correlation between suicidal ideations and education. Therefore, this study aimed prevalence associated risk factors for among in Germany. Methods We conducted a cross sectional survey with total 555 pupils. The pupils received standardized questionnaire, assessing sociodemographic data, use protective factors, possible traits neuroticism depressive symptoms. For our study, we excluded item 9 from Beck depression index (BDI-II) ideation. Results Our results show that ideation is 23.2%. A combination feeling lonely, male sex, low importance religion, little time hobbies BMI scores outside norm highest can be identified as significant predictors. Conclusion This cross-sectional highlights burden Germany confronted underlines necessity paying special attention group young adults.
